The members of NCPlenty's Board of Trustees have diverse backgrounds and a common commitment to community-building projects. Elizabeth Gibbs holds a Masters Degree in Environmental Management from Duke University and is the current Manager of the Durham Farmers’ Market. She is intent on promoting a “buy local” mentality that begins with local food and spreads to everything else! Elizabeth has served on NCPlenty’s Board of Trustees since April 2004. Shannon Hartzell-Jordan is a non-practicing licensed midwife who has been an active part of the Chapel Hill community for the last twelve years. Among other efforts, Shannon has organized and participated in a dinner co-op, a community garden, a spiritual mothering group, and a social justice group, and has served on the Board since its founding in 2002, and has held the office of Treasurer during this tenure. Matt Kalb is a telecommunications engineer and database specialist. He has worked for Unidial Communications, Access Point, Inc., and is currently employed by MCI. He holds a B.A. in Philosophy from Centre College and is also a professional musician with ties to the local music community. Matt has served on the Board since its founding in 2002, and has held the offices of Vice-President and Acting President during his tenure. Jon Lepofsky (Advisory) is currently a graduate student in the Department of Geography at UNC-Chapel Hill. Originally from Boston, he has been involved in a variety of community economic development and social justice initiatives in Boston, Atlanta, New York City, and now in central North Carolina. He enjoys reading, playing with his two cats, listening to the blues and jazz, and waiting for the day the Red Sox win the World Series. Jon has served as an Advisory Trustee since December 2003. Robert Andrew Smith graduated from Syracuse University then worked in research and development for AT&T Bell Laboratories. Robert is now Director of the Leaflight, a regional non-profit conducting environmental research, planning, and education. Robert has nine years of development experience, enjoys the outdoors, drum circles, and living simply. He joined the Board as an Advisory Trustee in March 2003 and was elected as a Trustee at the October 2003 Annual Meeting. Trustees are elected from among the general membership, and serve a two-year term. Officers are elected from among the Trustees. For a copy of our bylaws, click here. |
